In the case of PhotoRec because the application is mostly dealing with visual information, there is the QPhotoRec front-end which can add a different interface for the user. QPhotoRec is included in the download package. The essential information is located and displayed for the user but there is nothing flashy about this application's interface. The standard interface for both TestDisk and PhotoRec is essentially a DOS window inside of the Microsoft Windows OS, with a test-based display.
There are also multiple versions of both packages for several other operating systems including Mac and various distributions of Linux. TestDisk & PhotoRec requires Windows NT4, 2000, XP, 2003, Vista, 2008, or Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit supported). There was no malicious software included with either installation.
