Many companies use this tactic to boost sales of products, either doing 'seasonal' releases or 'limited time only' sales. If you always have a product on the floor, people will tend to bide their time, seeing if something better comes along, and hold the notion that the item will always be there when/if they decide to purchase said item.īy creating that exclusivity, you create more desire, thus creating more sales once it is on sale. Once released to sale floor again, due to the previous sparsity (lack of) said ship, sales skyrocket in the store, and thus create influx of much needed cash at the moment of their choosing.
